Kevin Beiser, school board Trustee for Scripps Ranch area, requested that we post his position against the Monarch development project. We greatly appreciate any and all support against the Monarch development project.
"I oppose the San Diego Unified School District proposal to develop the property where Innovations Academy Charter School is currently located into a four-story, 264-unit apartment complex.
I have several serious concerns regarding the proposal. The community planning groups evaluated the proposal and voted unanimously against such a development, which is seen as detrimental to the community. It is also of note that the development proposal was presented to the community and the school district in its current form without a back-and-forth dialogue to create a project that would be amenable to the needs of the community and fit better with the community plan.
Another major concern is for the children currently enrolled in Innovations Academy. Without a facility for the school to relocate to, I cannot support removing the school and the children for the sake of a development project. In addition, there is no new identified location for the longtime Scripps Ranch Farmers Market.
I feel that this particular development has many negative consequences that far outweigh any benefits."

Having one Board member on our side is not enough. We need two more people with the same position as Kevin Beiser. Additionally, putting out a statement like the one above is not enough. I don't think anything has been done either by Mr.Beiser's office or by Councilman Kersey's office to assist the residents in stopping this project from happening.
