FACTS
- SDUSD is terminating Innovations Academy lease to enter in 66 year lease agreement with developer Monarch
- SDUSD rep misrepresented the truth about charter school’s relocation
- SDUSD rep stated Monarch not paying property taxes
- SDUSD bought this 6 acre parcel with homeowners’ property tax and Mello Roos (Scripps Ranch residents still paying Mello Roos)
- 264 apartments/3000 sq ft classroom proposed on weapons free zone, undivided parcel
- Scripps Ranch Civic and Planning Committees and Miramar North Planning Committee unanimously oppose this proposal
- Scripps Ranch all Schools Committee voted unanimously to oppose the proposal
- Scripps Ranch schools already at full capacity, need more schools
- Most Scripps Ranch residents not told of lease deal until Nov 2015
- 8.4 million annual revenue for Monarch vs $400,000 annual revenue to school district
- Monarch purchased/developed Barnard site
- At this time there is no sponsor for the STEM Lab that will be part of the property. That means the developer will provide an empty building and it will be up to the district to fund materials, instructors, and transportation to the site. This will cost the district a lot of $.
